- Do you know about the Tokugawa Village?
This compound, The Tokugawa Village, comprising of approx. 5 acres (or
6,000 tsubo), is built on the site of the residence of Marquis Yoshichika Tokugawa,
the 19th Head of the Owari Tokugawa Family, who were the biggest and the
most famous of the daimyos amongst the relatives of the Tokugawa Shogun.
33 independent two-storied houses for rent and a women's student dormitory
are built within the compound. The houses, dotted amongst trees with sunshine
and singing birds -- a green oasis in the concrete desert of Tokyo -- are
all built with wood. 3,000 years of history has shown that due to the high
humidity in Japan, wooden houses, rather than stone or concrete ones, are
the most comfortable to live in. The houses built by Homat Houses, all have gardens. While designed exclusively for foreign residents, they
retain a touch of Japanese taste, and are well equipped with up-to-date
facilities. The spacious and economical houses have a floor space of 1,926
- 3,339 square feet (about 53 - 93 tsubo) each, with 3 to 5 bedrooms, and are a type of home not to be found amongst
the 'mansions' and apartment houses in the down-town areas of Tokyo. They
will give you a feeling of being truly "at home" and a tranquil
peace of mind.

- High class residential area in Tokyo
Mejiro is a high class residential area in the metropolis, with convenient
transportation facilities as far as roads, buses, and trains go. Mejiro
Station, on the Yamanote Line of Japan Railway (JR), is only 5 minutes
walk away from the compound. There is a nearby bus stop for the American
School. The shops and stores near the station are expanding their businesses
and are conveniently situated for shopping. There are many doctors, dentists
and beauty parlours in the neighborhood. All the paved streets in the compound
are lined with trees so that you can make the most of the different seasons
of Japan. The streets are private property and so are safe for children
and provide convenient parking for any guests who may visit your house.
The compound also has a tradition of enjoying the communal atmosphere and
the seasons by holding informal BBQs from time to time and having the children
come round at Halloween all dressed up for Trick or Treat.

- It is really quiet!
You are far away from the noise of the big city, yet close enough to its
conveniences. Only in the Tokugawa Village can you find such a community
surrounded with green trees where your family can live in peace and happiness
just like you used to do in your home country. You and your family may
make new friends and lead an active social life in the compound; however,
you may also keep your privacy if you so wish, and not be bothered with
the social activities in your neighborhood, because your home with a garden
is a single, independent, building. The Owari Tokugawa family lives in
this Village too, where the Research Institute for their family history
is also located. The Tokugawa Art Museum which houses the ancestral family treasures, is situated in the former
Owari Tokugawa fiefdom of Nagoya.
